Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I download the app?

The 4WDABC Gate App runs inside the ESRI Survey123 app. For more details see: Get the app

What can the app do?

The app is primarily designed for data capture.  If you have the ESRI Survey123 app installed the link http://gateapp.terramappa.com will install the form and take you to the data capture stage of the form. Here you can choose to record a gate, an obstruction or signage. You will also be able to record multiple photos, a record date and a gate status if you are recording a gate record type. Finally you can record comments.

The app also works offline.

Does the app work offline?

Yes. The app has the ability for you to record data offline and upload it once you are back in cellular or wifi reception.

When you download the gate app form it will also download an offline base map. Currently it is just for Vancouver Island but we intend to expand it to other areas such as the Fraser Valley. We are also investigating allowing you to use you own base maps that you may have stored on your device already.

Can I update an existing gate?

Yes. You will need to populate your Inbox with the existing data that has already been collected.

In order to do this you will need an ESRI developer account – sign up for one here: https://developers.arcgis.com/sign-up/

Here is a YouTube video describing how to populate your inbox: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGTPIzTtbSk

Can I view a map of gates offline?

The only way to take the gate map with you offline is to download the existing gate data into your inbox in the Survey123 app. See ‘Can I update an existing gate?’ for more details.

Once you have the data in you inbox you can browse this data by clicking on the Inbox. You can view it in a List or Map format. In Map format you can use the ‘My Location’ widget to locate gates near you. The map will not contain photos and the map will not show whether gates are open or closed until you click on the location of a gate to inspect the data.
